When your sweet little newborn isn’t actually a newborn anymore, you start wondering how to entertain your baby?! Days can often feel literally the same and you might want to spice things up a little and have some family fun. We’ve got your back! Here are the 6 best activities to do if you want to entertain your baby!
It’s true when they say that the days are long, but the years are short. Time literally flies when you have a baby!
One day you walk through the door with a tiny little human in your arms that only sleeps, eats, poops and cries (eeek!) and the other you have a 6-month-old full of energy bundle of joy!
The more your little munchkin grows, the more the variety he/she will require would be. Different toys, different rooms and lots of action during their awake time!
Staying at home simply won’t do the trick on some days – not for you and even more, not for baby!
RHYME TIME
Start easy! There isn’t a baby in the world that doesn’t like listening to someone singing, seeing them clapping and smiling. Babies mimic our expressions and making lots of funny faces at them helps with brain development. Rhyme time is the perfect little adventure for babies – you just book a session nearby, listen to some nice songs, even have a little dance party and also the chance to meet and connect with lots of other moms and kids.
Socialising is really important for babies, even early on and seeing other little humans sparks their curiosity.
If you live in the UK you can even take advantage of completely free sessions, just check where you can go in your area and make a booking online. Your health visitor should’ve advised you on this one. If not – you could always ask.
The same goes for our next suggestion –
STORY TELLING
That’s another fun way to enjoy your time with baby – exactly! Storytelling. Who doesn’t love the good old stories, especially when this time you won’t be the one doing the reading and wondering what to pick. You’ll be able to sit back and enjoy like back in the days when you were a little child. One of the best activities to do if you want to entertain your baby! A nice lady, or maybe a gentleman (who knows) will take care of this task. And you can be pretty sure they will do a good job! Usually the bigger kids are so excited and the atmosphere in there is pretty cool.
You could even stretch it a bit more and spend some extra time in the library afterwards if you are in the mood (and baby allows it).
Now it’s time to get a bit more active! Singing and reading is great, but what about we move a little bit! Let’s get baby tired… in a good way. You guessed right!
BABY GYM
This is a super cool way to spend some quality family time. There are different types of classes available for different age groups. Some include an instructor, others not and you can move freely with baby and choose what to try.
There are classes, suitable even from really early age – 3 months onwards and the staff teaches you how to introduce different movements to baby in the proper, safe way. They help you stimulate their visual, audial and spatial exploration on top of all.
The coolest part is that some places offer a completely free first visit! That way you and your family could give it a try, see if baby enjoys it and then start visiting on a more regular basis if it all goes smoothly.
If you’re feeling more adventurous and you want to introduce your little one to different sports activities really early on, the next one is for you!
SWIMMING
What an awesome way to bond with your little love! The earlier you introduce baby to water, the easier they will learn how to swim. Here you can try this activity starting from 6 weeks old, of course using a swimming vest / float. There are places, especially for babies only, or if you want to have some fun as well, there are family classes at the leisure centres. You can choose if you want a class with a swimming instructor or not.
Swimming is a great way to help baby develop their muscle strength, motor skills and coordination.
After we’re done with swimming, we can move on to the next suggestion, which is as simple as
A WALK
Yes, it might seem like a pretty obvious thing to do, but sometimes having a walk is all that baby needs in order to feel entertained. Cars passing by, lots of other people everywhere, different noises, smells, colours. The world is so big and so interesting for your little one and everything they see or do is for the first time.
Plus, some fresh air for you too and change of scenery is always welcome! What a better way to entertain your baby and on top of all it’s free!
Even a short trip to do the groceries still counts. You’ll be multitasking as usual – running some errands while enjoying your time.
If you feel like days are passing by and nothing different ever happens, it might be time to see some new faces. Make these walks more interesting by
MEETING UP WITH OTHER MOMS
Surely there are some coffee groups around your place where other moms gather to chat about all things baby and life in general. If you’re not sure, again you can check with your health visitor on this one. What better way to find friends who will know and really understand what you are going through at that moment?!
The best friendships are usually the most unexpected ones. So, don’t be shy and just give it a try!
Well, well, well! This was just our final point in today’s article. Since you’ve got some new ideas on which activities you can do to entertain your baby, you better do some bookings now.
Bonding with your little one is not just in those first ‘skin-to-skin’ moments. It’s a continuous process and what better way to do it while having some fun and trying new things together!
Enjoy and see you soon in the next article!
